Our story
Uniting to create a stronger voting experience
Pollitics was started by two friends with different political viewpoints, but the same goals: to educate voters and hold our elected officials accountable.
In order for American democracy to function as our founding fathers intended, democracy requires our participation and in order for us to participate, we must be educated and aware of the issues and offices we vote for. Although the information is widely available, we are largely uninformed regarding our current local, state, and federal branches of government. We may have relevant information on key-issue Supreme Court decisions, executive orders, and matters of controversy, but rarely if ever, do we have accurate data or knowledge beyond the hot-button issues at hand.
There are many reasons as to why we may be uniformed. One of them has to do with filters. Media news outlets have no interest in running informational pieces of public interest if it fails to draw big audience numbers and clicks on which they use to acquire money from advertisers. While many citizens may follow the controversial topics of government, most of us cannot name our representatives in both the Federal or State houses, let alone those at our local level. This is a major problem. Many important issues lack sensationalism, and thus, the media cannot be trusted, as the newspaper once was, to distribute issues relevant to the democratic process for the purpose of public interest. Effective government requires us, the public, to hold our elected officials accountable for their decisions and voting record. This information is public, but only to the diligent who seek it out and it takes HOURS of our busy lives to track all of this information down.
So, with the intention of improving our representational form of government, our app will give you the means in which to educate yourself on political issues. The app will drastically reduce the time it takes to process this information and will give you the power to hold our representatives accountable.
HOW DOES POLLITICS WORK?
After downloading the App, you will receive a daily summary of one to two sentences on each issue voted upon in the Local, State, and Federal levels of government. You may choose to contribute your own votes and thereby unlock the aggregate of your fellow constituents who have voted.
Your profile is based on how many issues you vote on. You may share issues you find relevant on social media to spur additional growth and interest. You may also compare your voting records to those of currently serving politicians as well as political candidates. BUT what we do differently at Pollitics, is we never tell you what political party the candidate is affiliated with or how a certain political party leans on these issues. This is all about what YOU believe. This data, once aggregated, can give you insight into your own political opinions. Every issue can be compared by geography, demographics, and political affiliation. You will also be provided links to contact your representatives directly. An additional feature would allow the analysis of financial data, giving you insight into how your tax dollars are spent.
You may not know the issues, but you know what you value. We ask you questions, you answer. Your answer then tells you how to vote on the topic at hand. No more political bias and spinning of topics, just the cold hard facts. Then you decide.
How do we keep this unbiased? All we do is ask the questions. You chose the answers that align with your values. There is no right or wrong answer because they are your values and yours alone. After you complete the polls you can see how you agreed or disagreed with your fellow constituents.
Then it’s all about accountability. If your elected official doesn’t vote with the majority of their constituents, then they have some explaining to do! We provide a direct contact link for you to express your viewpoints to your representative. If your elected official keeps going against the people that put them into power, then you can decide whether or not they get to keep their job in the next election. Power back to the people!
